Mini Gorillaz news round-up

Not to much to report at the moment but a few minor things to tide you over...

  • jonny sent in a video of Bashy (rapper on 'White Flag') in a comedy sketch "Come Grime With Me" on Youtube. There's even a (small) Gorillaz mention at 1:50. Check it out on Youtube here.

  • As many of you have written in to say, Murdoc did not appear on XFM this Sunday and no explanation was given by the station on the radio or its website. An alternative program replaced the Residency. Murdoc had annoucned on his second show (originally scheduled to be the second in a series of four) that on his third show he would be playing tracks from Gorillaz collaborators. More news on this (and alternative / new times, etc) as we get it.

  • Finally following the news that U2 have had to pull out of this year's Glastonbury festival (where they were originally due to headline) so Bono could have emergency surgery and rest for 2 months following that, The Times reports that Gorillaz along with The Chemical Brothers are two of the most suggested acts to fill the headline slot by Twitter users. However, other websites and publications have been backing other artists. At the moment there's no news on who will replace U2 as headliners, but with Snoop Dogg, The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Mos Def playing the festival already, Gorillaz would have some guests ready to go if they stepped in!

Gorillaz announced as Glastonbury Festival headliners - replace U2

Rumours have been building throughout the day but it has now been confirmed that Gorillaz will be headlining Glastonbury Festival, replacing U2 who have had to pull out. They will be headling the Friday night. The Independent (UK newspaper) reports that Michael Eavis, Glastonbury organiser, said that Gorillaz actually called him offering their services when it became known that U2 would drop out.

Full story and confirmation on the Guardian website here

Murdoc is quoted as saying:- ""We're like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the bay of Glastonbury to save the day. It was us or The Beatles and they split up years ago. The previous soldiers got pulled from duty last minute so it's up to my Plastic Beach naval cavalry to sail in and sort the battlefield out. I can assure you though, I'm bringing extra troops. Loads of them. Glastonbury will be ours … cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We're coming in …"

Damon said:- ""It's a terrible thing for U2. Glastonbury is magical. Gorillaz will come to life on that stage, but we wish Bono all the best."

Jamie said:- ""I wasn't sure how Gorillaz would work in a festival environment, but Coachella was amazing," he said. "I think Glastonbury will be an unbelievable experience for us." (source for Damon / Jamie quotes is here)

News about forthcoming Noodle video and new music video

Wondersauce was first to send in the following:-

"The new e-mail sent out from Gorillaz says:-
There will be a lot of action in our YouTube Channel over the next two weeks. We catch up with Cyborg Noodle - Murdoc's sinister creation made from Noodle's DNA remains at the El Manana crash site; and finally get a glimpse into what's been happening to Noodle herself - she's under attack yet again, but not gone. And if that wasn't enough, we'll soon be releasing the next Gorillaz video to show you what happened after Murdoc drove the car off the cliff in Stylo. Murdoc will tweet you when to look!'"
