4:02pm: Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett named 'Songwriters of the Year' at UK Ivor Novello awards
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have been named 'songwriters of the year' at the Ivor Novello awards, the UK songwriting awards, for the songs on Gorillaz' album 'Demon Days'. Jamie Hewlett was named along with Damon Albarn because despite the fact that he makes no musical contribution to Gorillaz songs, he is listed as joint composer on all songs released under the Gorillaz name. This is to ensure that he receives half the songwriting royalties, thus reflecting the fact that Gorillaz is a creative partnership between Albarn and Hewlett.
