Soulwax dislike their DARE remix
The French act Soulwax famously remixed Gorillaz' hit single DARE in 2005 (it was one of the most heavily featured remixes amongst many official remixes of the single). However, in a recent interview they confess they are not proud of the remix. David from the band comments "I really don't like it... it sounds like anyone could have made it". Stephen adds "it sounds like anyone could have made it". Check out the full article on rwdmag.com here.

Online Interview: Soulwax Talk Never-ending Weekends
Artist: RWD
With their film/ documentary, Part of the Weekend Never Dies, ready to be released on DVD and via download on Xbox LIVE, RWD catch up with David and Stephen Dewaele aka Soulwax aka 2 Many DJs aka Flying Dewaele Brothers aka Samantha Fu aka Kawazaki to get the latest from the Belgian duo... interview by Danny Walker
RWD meet Soulwax in Central London's Hospital hotel in a Xbox 360 filled room which can only be described as heaven. How's it going guys?
Stephen: Yes we're good, we're good.
David: Hello.
Why so many names first of all? You go under about 50 different monikers...
Stephen: We like keeping things chaotic and we love to confuse people.
David: Yes, I agree.
Why do you still love doing this?
Stephen: That is a good question. Why do we still like doing this? We're bringing out a DVD and it's being serviced by Xbox. I never knew that kids could buy music on Xbox, so this is great.
They can...
Stephen: Yeah, I think it just comes down to all the things that we do, we just enjoy them. We've just done a remix for the Chemical Brothers and people are asking us, 'Can we hear it?', we haven't even finished it yet.
What is so fun about doing all of these remixes?
David: It's different every time. [Points to imaginary mixing desk] That could be a hook or this could be a hook. Or sometimes it's already good and we just speed it up. It's different every time... it relates to your last question... that's why this is still fun.
What's been your best project?
Stephen: They've all been a struggle [room laughs]. I think we like the one we did with Gossip. That was pretty easy and it turned out to be a success for us and them. It's good cos when we DJ we have something to play that no-one else has [laughs].
What has been the worst track? Come on, confession time...
David: [Smiles] There is one that I really don't like. We did a remix for the Gorillaz... I really don't like it.
Stephen: The worst is that people think it is one of our best tracks. We're just like 'oh, no!!!'.
Looking back do you think, 'Why did I do that?'...
David: Good question, why did we do that?
Stephan: I think we didn't do a good job on it.
Even though it was loved?
David: Yeah, it sounds like anyone could have made it.
Out of all the countries where is the best you have played?
Stephen: The UK.
David: The UK, it really is.
Oh yeah, I knew you'd say that.
Stephen: It's the fact that the English get f*cked up really early and by the time you play they are ready. In Spain you have to play at like 6am - that is the peak time.
Do you have any pre-gig rituals?
Stephen: We just need a pair of headphones and we're Ok.
David: Anything that works.
So what delights are we going to get from Part of the Weekend Never Dies - I love that title btw?
Stephen: People go at it so hard that for the rest of the week they can still feel whatever they did on the weekend. David and I don't take drugs or drink but we play to people that do, we see the crowds (that do) have a good time that stretches until like, Wednesday.
Explain why just one camera was used for the shows?
That was the director, Saam Farahmand, I think it was a big achievement.
When the battery was changed, what did he miss?
Stephen: [laughs] A lot of stuff.
David: I think it was a good decision to use one camera. When he first started there was a soundman, and many cameras... we froze up. With one camera, we forgot it was there.
What is your favourite moment in the film?
Stephen: The footage from Reading and Leeds Festivals from 2006. We have a cocktail bar on stage.
Lastly, who is the best on Xbox 360 out of you two?
Stephen: Dave has a huge collection of video games so he will win on everything.
The new Radio Soulwax movie Part of The Weekend Never Dies is available now on Xbox LIVE – a mind-blowing audio and visual spectacle incorporating both live concert and behind the scenes footage of one of the most progressive musical acts in the world.
