I was hooting for the Gorillaz to win"Record of the year"but they lost to greenday.I mean why would a 2 year old cd win that award?Gorillaz were never overplayed like some retaded punks.Besides, they won "best pop colaberation award/vocals".But for us fans out here, they will always be albam of the year.

i hated the missy elliot video. i'm upset about that one.

and yea, i was a little disappointed with the performance since it was a re-hash (haha, that's a gorillaz song) of the EMA performance. it looked a whole lot better this time around, like they were about to improve on the technology a bit. but the stage was just not to my liking, either.

be glad the tour isn't for another year, year and a half!

Well, kinda new it would happen, but seeing it is completely different. Madonna's ass just had to butcher up the Gorillaz performance ;_; Her funky self is begining to show her age anyway. Kinda looks like she raided Michael Jacksons wardrobe X3

Oh...that was kind of diappointing. It was the EMA music awards, except they changed the animations for Russell and 2D so they moved a bit more. They were on a puny stage and seemed a little too bright and unrealistic...

They were much better at EMA, I think.

I didn't think they changed anything for 2D... Or noodle really.
they made him leave I gues.
But Murdoc seemed to be the only one interacting really, besides noodle's head movements following madonna.
Russel started falling asleep though. ^_^ but I think she stole the show. Even my mum(who doesn't care much about gorillaz) said they shouldn't do that again.
But they didn't really have the time did they? 3-D animation takes forever to do.

Gorillaz as an opening act, and didn't even get to finish their song. Not to mention the fact that they recycled the EMA animations...Noodle kept falling off that stool.

It would've been nice if they'd cut away from Madonna long enough to show Noodle's "bored" animation, though...or Murdoc scratching himself.

They get up make some jokes (like at Manchester). And then 2D says the nominees while Murdoc makes comments on how they suck. I'd have to say that'd be pretty hilarious!

Just saw the performance...it showed WAY too much Madonna. It was so unevenly split-and obvious...mehh... At least the Gorillaz looked a bit more realistic. But there was barely any Noodle and 2D's synching was pretty bad. His mouth was like stiff or something. I liked how Murdoc sorta interacted with Madonna though. And Boulevard of Broken Dreams???!!! And, I was rather disappointed that it was recycled from the EMAs but it was still great! I did like that they had Madonna walk around Muds. Sorry to be posting again, but this little comment/rant I typed up just now.

    --

I liked the Gorillaz + Madonna performance for the Grammys. Sure, I don't really like Madonna as a person but she looks good can dance and I like the song. But, all I see is everyone complaining about it. Boo-freaking-hoo. I mean, did everyone really expect to have completely new animation for the Gorillaz performance? Something like that takes a lot of time and money to create. Just like drawn art, it takes time to refine it and make it perfect. No artist that I know would put up a masterpiece before it was finished. Personally, I'd rather see the same thing again than see something new that was horribly rushed. And it was not the EXACT same performance. There were minor edits that really made it have a diferent overall feel in my opinion.

But I do agree that I didn't like how it just instantly moved to focus on Madonna. I would have liked to see how Gorillaz made thier exit from the stage.

I just think that people should stop looking for things to complain about and just be happy that they performed and that we fans had something else to look forward to. I sure am happy.

It's not that we're looking for things to complain about, it's just that the bad noticeably outweighed the good. They should have just kept the original EMA footage for Gorillaz fans/others that did not see it, rather than butchering it with another act that started right in the middle.

That was less the Gorillaz wperforming with Madonna than it was Madonna bursting in and completely taking over the last 75% of the song. It would have been nice to see some new animation. If they wanted it to be really great, they shoulda had the hologram Madonna make out Murdoc before making her exit to the stage.

I hate to sound mean, but their performance this time was sort of dull. I don't know, but they should have used a different song. They should have done Dare. I'm not really a fan of Madonna's newer stuff, but she pretty much upstaged them. :( Well, atleast they one an award.

    My review...
    [info]noirraven
    2006-02-09 02:20 am UTC (link)
SPOILER for those who haven't seen it yet for whatever pissant reason...

The opening act, sucked. It really did. They used the exact same models/animations they did for the EMA's performance. I figured they were going to pull those back out of their arse when I first heard they were playing Feel Good Inc again but on the Gorillaz behalf, I'm going to take this time to defend them a little bit for ya know, there wasn't time for anything new really. The EMA's and the Grammies were too close together and even with hundreds of animators, the latest graphic/animation programs, computers and technicians, 3D CGI still takes at least six months to a year for even the shortest of animations.

Getting back to the head bashing now. If you ask me, it was shittier than the EMA's. They looked like they were floating and they were a bit too big to be realistic. Especially when the corporeal celebs came out parading on to the stage for their shit bits. All the Gorillaz really did was play the first half of FGI then Madonna came on stage and took over, strutting her stuff as if she's still has it.

One of the high lights of the performance was the fact that we got to see shit load of crystal clear, close up detail unlike with EMA's. The only thing different this time though was Murdoc/Russel. We got to see a lot more of Mudsy goofing off, with what looks like new animation though it probably wasn't anything the EMA's live audience didn't see.

One of those crystal clear details was Murdoc being a clown on stage with his Bass. He walked around without holding it and it just sort of floated there. "Look mum! No hands!" (Show off.) I loved it when he smiled and stuck his tongue out at us afterwards. That was cute and it wasn't something I saw in the net footage of the EMA's but again, I'm sure their audience did.

One of the more subtle details the cameras at the EMA's failed to pick up was Murdoc stamping his foot slightly to the beat of the song and Russel falling asleep when Noodle came up to play. XD Russel also clapped his hands for a few a little bit although I'm not exactly sure when that was now. I'm sick and when I saw it was the EMA performance, "copied and pasted," so to speak, I sort of lost interest.

Surprisingly, Murdoc didn't have a BIG reaction to Madonna. Pfft, with all the women he's been with, I guess it's not all that surprising. Especially when one is wearing a one piece, purple (dance) suit... Heh, as if she's shocking anymore. *Ducks from Madonna fans* Besides! Knowing him, he's already banged her back stage. XD

All in all, in my opinion, the Gorillaz would've done better on her their own and sadly, they didn't get nearly as much screen time as that fucking glory whore, Madonna.

I'm still watching for their turn up on stage to win the award(s) they've won but I may have missed it. I've had the first hour of the EMA's on mute after they were on. I hate bland, predictable, fake gratitude speeches.

I was disappointed to see the EMA program recycled for the Grammys, but thanks to some selective camera shots we saw more of Russel's routine than before, which was nice. Madonna did seriously bring the whole effect down. Why cut half of 'Feel Good Inc.' off so we can hear some rehashed disco? However, the good part of having Madonna there was that she actually seemed to interact with the holograms. Walking around Noodle and Murdoc made them both seem that much more real. Murdoc eyeing her over was a lovely piece of timing.

I wish they would have done 'DARE'! A duet between Madonna and Noodle? Priceless! Even if Shawn Ryder wasn't a part of that, they could have 2D covering his vocals.

When I heard that Gorillaz and Madonna were sharing the stage, I thought that they would literally play a part in each other's songs. Instead the Gorillaz end up getting their act pushed out of the way. Still, it's better to see them on stage than nowhere at all. A good effort.
